Patagonia’s Houdini Jacket is the original lightweight, water-resistant shell; it’s not designed for alpinism like its close relative, the Alpine Houdini Jacket, which makes it about half the weight, at only 105 g (3.7 oz), and ideal for every activity from trail running, to cycling to hiking. The design is super minimal to keep the weight down, yet it’s still surprisingly feature-heavy; reflective detailing at the back is ideal for runners, while the adjustable hood is simple but doesn’t obstruct your peripheral vision. Half elasticated wristbands and a simple adjustable hem mean you can always keep the weather out, while the zip-up chest pocket, of course, doubles as a stow sack so you can always keep it with you while you’re on the move.

DWR (Durable Water Repellent) Finish
An ultra-thin chemical coating applied to technical garments as the first line of defence against wet weather. This coating creates thousands of densely packed polymer “hairs” that prevent water droplets from reaching the surface of the jacket and encourages them to bead together and roll off. The first line of defence against wet weather.
Ripstop fabrics are made by weaving a nylon thread in interlocking, square patterns through a base material. (You can spot its distinguishable appearance in fabrics with a raised box or diamond pattern.) As a result, rips and tears, unable to bypass this nylon barrier, are confined to one very small area and will not spread throughout the fabric.
