Mad Rock M5 Climbing Shoe
The M5 is Mad Rock's first shoe to combine a flat sole with the features of a down-turned shoe, coming up with a rock shoe that is comfortable as well as high-performing. The Arch Flex system provides the glove-like fit of a concave sole but without forcing the toes into a curled-down shape, with velcro straps for extra-tight adjustments, while the torque heel and Power Upper are ideal for hooking and jamming. Overall, a great shoe for anyone who wants a high-performance, all-round shoe without compromising on comfort.

Mad Rock's Arch Flex Technology
R2 rubber was developed exclusively by Mad Rock for their Arch Flex Technology. It’s sticky and head-wearing, as you’d expect from high performance rubber, but it also has a high elasticity. This means that the shoe will hug and lock on to your foot, providing an exceptional fit without the pain associated with many performance rock shoes.
Mad Rock Torque Heel
Mad Rock's Torque Heel design is made from super-sticky rubber with strategically placed grooves to give optimal heel hooking abilities.
Mad Rock Power Upper
Mad Rock's Power Upper covers most of the forefoot and gives you an extra 30% more rubber to play with while you're climbing. This gives you better grip over the entire foot.
Mad Rock Tek Flex Upper
Mad Rock's patented upper material is synthetic, breathable and durable. It won't stretch, which means your shoe will fit true to size as soon as you put it on.

I went for these after I tried the Mad Rock Shark, which felt too aggressive and uncomfortable for long sessions. The curvature offers a good balance between performance and comfort for bouldering. The tip rubber is high quality and you feel safe in small holds. The sole is also very flexible. Although the M5 is not as good as the Shark for heel-hooks (as the fit is not as tight in the heel), you are still pretty capable of hooking. The two velcro straps make it is easy to adjust and to put in and out.
Additionally, it is a vegan option, which for me is mandatory.
The fit is slightly small. The 44.5 works for me and I wear 43.5 street size.
I got a pair now almost a year ago and only now needed to replace them for a new pair of the same model (because I liked them so much and they lasted very well). Considering that my foot work is not perfect as I am only intermediate climber and that I have been climbing 2-3 times a week, these shoes have lasted very well. Only now the rubber on the point has broken open (but the shape of the shoe is still very sharp and 'pointy').
So at first the shoes seem very hard and even a bit slippy on the wall. Once warn 2-3 times they become super comfy, sticky and precise.
Have not tried them outdoors though!
My regular shoe size is 5 and I get size 7 for these, but I am not a believer in painful, uncomfortable shoe. And size 7 fits perfectly snug and is comfortable at the same time.
Excellent intermediate shoes. a 44 is good for street size UK9.5.
